The liver is the most vital and largest organ of the body. It performs a number of important functions of the body. Liver is situated on the right side of the abdomen under the lower ribs. For the proper functioning of the body, it is essential to have a healthy liver.
However liver can be affected by a number of serious disorders like viral infection, circulatory system disorder, parasitical infection, formation of stone in the bile duct, various types of tumors and injurious caused due to poisonous substances
Liver involves in digestion. Food gets stored in the liver after being digested and absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract. Another vital function of the liver is detoxification. It removes harmful poisons and toxins from the body. When liver get affected due to various diseases, all these functions are impaired. Liver helps in the absorption of fat from the intestine by producing bile, a golden-yellowish liquid. Cholesterol is also produced in the liver.
Liver produces prothrombin needed for the clotting of the blood. Furthermore elimination of certain substances like urea is also produced in the liver which is an important component of urine. However certain liver diseases affect the production of these substances
Many kinds of proteins are produced in the liver. Proteins are everywhere in the body which are essential to lead a healthy life. These proteins include blood clotting protein also and that is the reason why blood doesn’t get clotted easily when the liver has some problem.
